Introduction
This section directs you towards implants and other operations that affect a particular part of the body so if you find something in a certain position in the body but don't know what it is you can see the different items it might be through the use of images which will then link to more information about an item.

Even looking at one part of the body you might find a number of variations from what you expect to see. If you look at the knee the obvious thing you might see is a knee replacement but there are variations and other things that might be visible, for example:

  • Knee replacement
    • Total knee replacement TKR
    • Unicondylar
    • Metal spacer for varus or valgus correction.
    • Variations in patella component presence or absence
  • Ligament implants either replacing anterior cruciate or posterior cruciate and less frequently medial or later collateral ligaments.
    • Natural from patella tendon
    • Polyester
    • Carbon-fibre polyester combination
  • Natural variations e.g. due to wear and tear including loose bodies, torn meniscus.
  • Cartilage replacement or growth enhancement
    • Carbon fibre
    • Drilled holes to promote regrowth
    • Laboratory grown cartilage repair
This section then will act as a link from the position on the body to finding out more about the types of implants you are likely to see and what they look like.
